Rivalry Goes in Way of the Cavaliers

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team fell in the second round of the Region VI Playoffs losing to (2) Johnson County Community College 9-1 in eight innings of play May 14 in Salina, Kan. The (6) seeded Blue Devils added two errors, which cost three runs.

The Cavaliers were able to score three runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the fourth inning, Frankie Santiago scored the only Blue Devil run with a solo home run hit a mile high, over the right field wall. Marcus Dierks recorded three of the six hits for KCKCC and as a team, the Blue Devils struck out 13 times. The Blue Devils have only struck out 10+ times in eight of their 59 games played this season.

Bryson Vawter threw for 6.2 innings, letting up six runs (three earned) from seven hits and seven walks. He struck out three of the 34 batters that he faced. Caden Howell entered the game in the seventh inning with two outs and recorded the final out with a strikeout. Jake Titus started in the eighth inning and allowed two runs and two walks. Sebastian Udland entered the game for Titus and let in one run, completing the 8-run mercy rule.

KCKCC will now take on the (5) Hutchinson Blue Dragons in a win or go home game at 10 a.m. May 15.
