KANSAS CITY, Kan. – After splitting with Metropolitan earlier in the week, the KCKCC softball team finished off the weekend with three straight wins over Dodge City. The Blue Devils defeated the Conquistadors 14-6, 8-7 and 18-3.
The squad is now 9-8 overall on the season.
SATURDAY
Dodge City got out to a 4-3 lead after two innings in the first game, but the Blue Devis added a pair of runs in the third inning to take the lead. After one run by Dodge City in the fourth, the Blue Devils broke the tie and ran away with the win by scoring nine runs in the final three innings before the run-rule came into effect.
Adrianna Smith hit two home runs, while Ruby Nola added one.
In the second game, KCKCC led 4-2 after three innings. Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning and the score was 6-6 heading into the fifth frame. KCKCC broke the tie in the sixth frame with two runs, but Dodge City forged a comeback in the seventh starting with one run. A costly mistake by the Conquistadors ended with a double-play to seal the win for the Blue Devils.
(Adrianna) Smith added another home run on the day, while Samantha Price tagged Dodge City for a long bomb.
SUNDAY
The momentum continued on Sunday where the Blue Devils struck for 12 runs in the second inning to take the early lead.
