Droge Strikes Out 13 in Sweep

The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the Allen County Community College Red Devils with scores of 7-2 and 8-7 on Monday, April 7. The Blue Devils are currently on a 13-game win streak and are in first place in the KJCCC with a conference record of 8-0. Behind them is Neosho County (6-0), Cowley (5-1) and JCCC (5-1).

In the first game, Kaitlyn Cowan shined bright in the Blue Devil offense as she went 3-4 from the plate and brought in three RBIs while scoring two runs. All three of her hits were doubles. Sidney Sullivan recorded three hits, scored a team-high three runs and also had two doubles. Both of Ashton Rusell's hits were doubles and she added two RBIs.

Alyssa Droge was the lone pitcher and went the distance as she let in two runs from six Red Devil hits. She struck out 13 of the 28 batters she faced.

In game two, KCKCC put up two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it 8-1 but allowed the Red Devils to score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a one-run game. Kloey Dawes hit her first home run on the season and went 3-4 from the plate. Sydney Becker hit a double and knocked in two RBIs on the hit. Abryelle Hill also knocked in two RBIs, had one hit and scored once.

Hanna Acree threw for the first four innings, allowed two runs and one earned from the four Red Devil hits. She had one struck out and faced 16 batters. Kinlei Boley entered in the fifth inning and allowed four runs, two earned and three hits. Droge came into the game and threw for the final two innings while allowing one run and three hits.

The next series for the Blue Devils is April 8 as they take on Moberly Area Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the KCKCC softball field.
