Blue Devils Hold Off Fort Scott On Last Second Shot

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC women's basketball team had a scare down the stretch against Fort Scott Saturday afternoon, avoiding a last-second heave by the Greyhounds. But the Blue Devils managed to come out with a 57-54 victory inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils record now stands at 15-8 overall and 4-3 in the KJCCC.

Fort Scott led 17-16 after the first quarter, but the Blue Devils quickly gained a 10-point lead ignited by a three-point basket from Sarah Khamis. KCKCC closed out the half on a 14-0 run and led 37-22.

The Greyhounds chipped away and briefly cut the deficit to under 10 points in the third quarter. Rebecca Christodoulou nailed a three-point basket to start the fourth. The team led by nine points at the 5:03 mark. A 7-0 run by Fort Scott made it 53-51 KCKCC, but another basket from Christodoulou and two free throws from Jada Johnson gave the Blue Devils a three-point lead. The Greyhounds had one last shot as time expired, but it missed. KCKCC would hold on for the win.

Christodoulou (16) and Miaya Ware (10) scored in double-figures.

KCKCC returns to the floor Wednesday when they meet nationally-ranked JCCC for the second time this season, in Overland Park, Kan. at 5:30 p.m.
