A graduate of Washington High School, Kevin Young came along two years later to erase Segui’s batting records, hitting .441 as a freshman and earning All-American honors as a sophomore when he led the Jayhawk Conference in hitting with a .477 average that still stands as the Blue Devil record. After one year at Southern Mississippi where he hit .344 and shared the sports spotlight with Brett Favre, Young was drafted in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1990. He would play 12 years in the majors, 11 with Pittsburgh and one with the Royals, compiling a career average of .258 with 144 home runs and 606 RBI in 1,205 games.
