COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - If the KCKCC women's soccer team needed a tough test before conference play begins next week, they got it on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The Blue Devils battled No. 9 Iowa Western CC, climbing back from a 2-0 hole to tie the score and eventually played to a 3-3 draw after one more goal by each squad. The Blue Devils keep the loss column unblemished and now stand at 1-0-1 on the season.
Iowa Western would score two quick goals in the first 13 minutes taking the early lead. But KCKCC quickly answered back in the 17th minute when Jana Richter scored her sixth goal of the season on a pass from Jordan Bedard. Trailing 2-1 at halftime, the Blue Devils were still in the thick of the match and came out swinging just seconds in. KCKCC worked their way downfield and created an opportunity, as Mia Hurt passed it off to Bedard for the game-tying goal to make it 2-2 at the 45:38 mark.
Hurt and Bedard teamed up again 10 minutes later and pushed the lead into the team's hands at 3-2 after another goal. Iowa Western however quickly capitalized and tied the game seconds later, which led to the draw in the end.
Bedard led the team with two goals scored and Hurt added two assists. Goalkeeper Karli Angle made 12 saves in the match on 15 shot on goal attempts from the Reivers.
KCKCC returns to the field on Aug. 31 when they host Hutchinson CC at 6 p.m.
