Women’s Soccer Ties No.16 Hutchinson in Defensive Battle

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's soccer team tied the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons, 1-1 Oct. 19 at the KCKCC soccer field. The Blue Devils out shot the Blue Dragons 27 to three and 12 to two with shots on target. The undefeated season continues as they are 11-0-5 heading into the last week of the regular season.

Cora Ellermann scored the lone goal in the first half in the 33rd minute with an assist from Jaycee Schumann. Ellermann played Schumann in the corner and after taking on a defender, was able to pass the ball back to the German midfielder who was waiting on top of the box. Ellermann took a touch and hammered it to the bottom left corner past the Blue Dragon goalkeeper to make it 1-0. The Blue Dragon goal came from a corner kick in the second half with just six minutes remaining in the game. Maria Heuman recorded one save in net for the Blue Devils and Marina Lopez saved 11 of the 12 shots that she saw for the Blue Dragons.

The next game for the Blue Devils women's soccer team is against No.15 Cowley Community College at 5 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Cowley soccer field in Arkansas City, Kan.
