Baseball Takes Three Out Of Four From Butler CC

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC baseball team had a long weekend with a four-game series against Butler CC on Saturday and Sunday. After sweeping Saturday's schedule against the Grizzlies with 6-2 and 7-0 wins, before splitting Sunday's games. The Blue Devils fell in the first game 7-4 before rallying back to win the second contest 11-8.

KCKCC is 4-1 overall on the season.

In Game one of the series, the Blue Devils posted the first five runs of the game in the fourth inning. After adding one more run in the fifth inning, the Grizzlies struck back with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. KCKCC would hold the Grizzlies scoreless in the seventh and took the first contest by a score of 6-2. Pablo Sanchez and Parker Bosserman each had two hits in the game, while Brayden Vawter added a team-high three RBI. Arlen Peters earned the win on the mound with six innings and struck out five batters.

The Blue Devils took that momentum and used it in the second game, pitching a 7-0 shutout. The Blue Devils scored three runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth. Brendyn Bard had a big day at the plate with a home run as part of his three hits, while knocking in six runs. Logan Barnard and Chase Terrell combined for the shutout with five total strikeouts and only allowed one hit.

On Sunday the Blue Devils fell in the first game 7-4. KCKCC managed to strike first in the second inning when Darius Freeman hit a solo home run to right field. Butler then scored six unanswered runs to take the lead, before Freeman added his second home run of the game in the fifth inning to make it 6-2 Grizzlies. Palmer Hutchison and Sanchez added one RBI each in the sixth inning, but Butler held on for the win in the end. 

KCKCC would take the final game of the series at 11-8. The squad got out to a fast start as they hit two home runs in the first inning, coming from Cole Dawson and Sanchez. Butler would add three runs in the second and third innings to take the slim lead, but the Blue Devils climbed back to tie the score at 6-6 in the fourth inning. With two outs, Dawson and Hutchison reached base before Bard stepped up to the plate and launched a bomb to left field for a three-run homer. The Blue Devils added another five runs and held on in the end, as the Grizzlies were unable to make a comeback. Dawson and Sanchez each had four RBI to lead the team.

KCKCC has a quick turnaround as they travel to play State Fair CC on Tuesday for a game at 1 p.m.
