Baseball Takes Three From Marshalltown CC

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The KCKCC baseball team continued their hot streak as they took three of four games from Marshalltown CC on Sunday and Monday. The Blue Devils split the first two games on Sunday falling 8-7 and winning 6-0 before sweeping the Tigers on Monday - 6-3 and 7-0. All four games took just seven innings to play.

KCKCC is now 12-3 overall on the year.

In the first game of the series it was close throughout, but Marshalltown struck for six runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-2 lead. The Blue Devils put together a string of hits including a home run from Brendyn Bard in the bottom half, but it was not enough to overtake the opposition as they lost 8-7.

Tyler Jenness led the team with two hits and Bard had three RBI.

In the second game the Blue Devils held the Tigers off the scoreboard. Marshalltown was only able to get two hits in the game, while the Blue Devils took the contest 6-0. KCKCC scored one run in the first, second and third innings to start the scoring. Caleb Adams and Parker Bosserman each had three hits and one home run, while Adams led the Blue Devils with three RBI. Tre Simmons threw six shutout innings and struck out two batters.

KCKCC got out to a 6-0 lead after four innings in game three with Adams adding his second home run of the series and four RBI. Marshalltown would not get on the scoreboard until later and it was too little too late as the Blue Devils took the win.

Game four was the nightcap as the Blue Devils had a similar performance to the second game. Scoring happened early and Marshalltown was unable to get anything going on offense. KCKCC scored two runs in the second inning and continued to rake with one run in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and tacked on another in the sixth. The Tigers were once again held to two hits in the game.

Bard, Pablo Sanchez and Brayden Vawter each had one double and Bosserman added a triple in the contest. Alexander Carrillo earned the win on the mound with two scoreless innings.

The Blue Devils return to the field on Thursday as they host Labette CC at 1/3:30 p.m., before going on the road to Labette on Saturday.
