Baseball Stays Hot With Four-Game Sweep Over Labette CC

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - A four game series that lasted a span of four days ended on Sunday as the KCKCC baseball team swept Labette CC to begin conference play. The Blue Devils took home 13-4 and 10-0 wins on Thursday before concluding the series with 8-3 and 23-6 scores on Sunday.

KCKCC is 16-3 overall and 4-0 in the KJCCC.

Game one pitted both teams tied at 1-1 after the first inning, but a big second inning from the Blue Devils balooned their lead to 5-1. Labette added three runs in the fourth inning, but the Blue Devils got hot and poured on eight runs in the bottom half. That would be the decisive inning as the Blue Devils took the first game 13-4 and took advantage of four Cardinals' errors.

Caleb Adams and Parker Bosserman each had three hits. Bosserman also scored three runs and Brendyn Bard added four RBI. Arlen Peters earned his second win on the mound throwing 3.2 innings.

In game two, the fielding struggles continued for Labette as they had five total errors. KCKCC led 6-0 after three innings before adding the final four runs in the fifth frame. Scoring 10 runs in the game, the Blue Devils also tallied 13 hits. Darius Freeman led the charge with three hits, two runs scored and three RBI. Logan Barnhard threw six shutout innings and struck out eight batters.

The third game of the series saw the Cardinals jump out to a 2-0 lead. However, the Blue Devils scored eight unanswered runs after four innings. Labette added one run in the fifth but that was all there was for the Blue Devils to worry about as they notched the third win of the series.

Freeman and Pablo Sanchez each hit home runs in this game, with Freeman adding a team-high five RBI. Cooper Carlgren earned his first win on the mound and Hunter Cashero added his third save on the season.

Game four proved to be the standard for the series as KCKCC's offense never seemed to stop. The Blue Devils scored at least four runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings - totaling 23 runs after five frames. Labette was unable to capitalize and could only muster six runs throughout the contest. Taking advantage of four Labette errors, KCKCC also totaled 17 hits.

Palmer Hutchison had three hits for the Blue Devils and Bosserman had five RBI. The team hit four home runs in the game coming from Bosserman, Cole Dawson, Adams and Matthew Buffington. William Hann earned the win on the mound throwing two innings and allowing just one earned run.

KCKCC returns to the field on Tuesday as they host one game against Hesston College at 1 p.m.
