Baseball Takes One Out Of Three Against Barton

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – A three game series with Barton was on tap for the KCKCC baseball team this past weekend, where the Blue Devils took one of three contests from the Cougars. The Blue Devils fell 8-6 to Barton on Saturday, before splitting Sunday's doubleheader, both by scores of 7-4.

KCKCC is 9-4 overall on the season.

SATURDAY

Barton went up 2-0 after three innings of play before using the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead. Heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Cougars led 8-0, but KCKCC climbed back to score three runs.

The game would go scoreless until the bottom of the ninth with one last chance for the Blue Devils. KCKCC started a rally with one out, scoring three runs. But that would be all as Barton won the game.

Matthew Buffington led the team with two hits and scored two runs. Jackson Mervosh and Tyler Jenness also scored two runs in the game.

SUNDAY

The two teams squared off in a doubleheader where Barton went up 4-0. KCKCC scored one run in the bottom of the fourth before tying the game up in the seventh at 4-4, after scoring two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. The contest went into extra innings as the Cougars' offense put the game away in the 10th inning with three runs.

Gehrig Goldbeck, Jase Woita and Buffington each had two hits with Buffington hitting a home run.

Barton went up 4-0 in the second game as they looked for the series sweep. But a big sixth inning by the Blue Devils led to seven runs to give them the lead. KCKCC shut down Barton in the seventh to take the series finale.

Woita led the team with three hits, while Goldbeck, Parker McGee and Austin Burroughs each had two RBI. Mason Davenport earned the win, while Jett Buck recorded his first save of the season.

KCKCC is back in action Tuesday when they play Metropolitan at 1 p.m. at Creekside Baseball Park in Kansas City, Mo.
