
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Jase Woita led the KCKCC baseball team's charge against Labette last week as he hit two home runs on Saturday. The Blue Devils split the series with Labette winning 10-9 and 9-5, while falling 5-2 and 5-4.
KCKCC is 16-16 overall and 4-12 in the conference.
THURSDAY
Labette drew first blood as they tacked on two runs in the first inning. KCKCC added three runs in the third before Labette tied the game in the top of the fourth. The Blue Devils counterattacked with five runs in the fourth inning, but the Cardinals tied the game in the fifth to keep things close.
The tight battle continued into the seventh inning as both teams added one run each. But in the eighth, inning KCKCC managed to walk it off with a run and win 10-9.
Matthew Buffington hit a home run and went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI. Hector Candelas and Jackson Mervosh each added a double, while Alan Mercado got the win on the mound.
In game two, the Cardinals came out victorious. KCKCC got a run to start the game before Labette went up 3-1 after three innings. After the Blue Devils scored in the fourth, the Cardinals added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to solidify the win.
Jase Woita added two doubles at the plate, while Mervosh had a triple.
SATURDAY
KCKCC got out to a 3-2 lead after the first inning. After adding another run in the third, the Cardinals took a one-run lead at 5-4 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Blue Devils however, answered back and had a big fourth inning where they scored five runs, eventually riding the lead to a win.
Woita added a home run in the game, while Jett Buck and Candelas each hit a double.
In the second game, the Blue Devils fell behind 2-0 before scoring a run in the sixth inning. After scoring three runs in the eighth, the Cardinals tied the game at 4-4 heading to the ninth. The Blue Devils were unable to score before the Cardinals walked it off with a 5-4 win.
Woita added his second home run of the day and had two RBI.
KCKCC returns to the field on Tuesday when they host Metropolitan at 1 p.m.
