
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC baseball team returned to conference play this past week as they took on Fort Scott in a four-game series. The Blue Devils split the first two games on Thursday falling 10-5 and winning 11-8, before sweeping the Greyhounds on Saturday by scores of 15-3 and 4-3.
KCKCC is now 20-17 overall and 7-13 in conference play.
THURSDAY
The Blue Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first game, but Fort Scott quickly answered with six unanswered runs. The Blue Devils added a run in the fifth inning before one last run at the deficit in the seventh with three runs. However, the Greyhounds held on for the win.
Jase Woita added two hits and three RBI including a home run.
In the second game of the day, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie after two frames. KCKCC then scored a pair of runs in the third inning, before the Greyhounds cut the lead to 3-2.
The Blue Devils got a big boost in the sixth inning as they posted five runs to help accelerate them to a three-run win down the stretch. Fort Scott added six runs in the ninth inning, but it was not enough to come out with the win.
Hector Candelas added two home runs and six RBI, while Woita added another long shot.
SATURDAY
KCKCC exploded for a big lead in the first game of the day scoring nine unanswered runs. Fort Scott grabbed three runs in the fourth inning, but added insurance by the Blue Devils in the bottom of the fourth frame helped them to earn the run-rule victory. The Blue Devils scored six runs in the inning to win 15-3.
Brady Patterson hit a home run and Jackson Mervosh had four RBI.
In the second game, the Blue Devils scored all their runs first and took a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning. Fort Scott added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh but were shut out the rest of the way. KCKCC won the game to earn the sweep on the day.
Woita led the team with two RBI.
The Blue Devils will play a tune up game on Tuesday when they host Park JV at 1 p.m.
