Blue Devils Win Series Against Ravens

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC baseball team returned to conference play this past weekend and took three out of four games from Coffeyville. The Blue Devils defeated the Ravens 12-10 and 17-7 on Thursday at home, before winning 10-4 and falling 10-9 on Saturday in Coffeyville, Kan.

The Blue Devils are now 24-18 overall and 10-14 in conference play.

On Thursday in the first two games of the series, the Blue Devils had to climb back late in the first game. They then used a late run in game two to solidify the daily sweep over the Ravens.

KCKCC grabbed an 8-4 lead after the first two innings in the first contest. Coffeyville made a statement in the sixth inning after taking advantage of a few mistakes by the Blue Devils and scored six runs to lead 10-9. But in the bottom of the sixth, the Blue Devils got some runners on base and Lee Allen Jr. helped catapult the squad ahead. KCKCC etched a scoreless seventh against Coffeyville to take the first game.

Brady Patterson hit a home run with three hits, while Jett Buck Jett Buck also added three hits. Jase Woita led the way with four RBI.

In game two, KCKCC led 5-1 after the first inning. But the Ravens tied the game in the third after getting a pair of runs in the second and third innings. The Blue Devils held the Ravens to two runs the rest of the game, while tacking on plenty of insurance runs from the fourth-seventh innings.

Hector Candelas hit a home run and had three hits. Candelas and Allen tied for the team lead of four RBI.

On Saturday, the Blue Devils fell behind 3-2 to the Ravens, but gained the lead in the second inning after scoring two runs. KCKCC managed to tack on six more runs in the game before finishing with a six-run victory.

Woita and Matthew Buffington each had three RBI in the game.

In game two the two teams were tied at 2-2 through three innings. KCKCC outscored Coffeyville 4-2 in the third inning to lead 6-4. The Blue Devils then added a pair of runs in the fourth to extend their advantage.

Coffeyville added four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie up the game before walking it off in extra innings to clinch one win in the series.

Candelas had three RBI, while Christian Ammann added two.

The Blue Devils return to action on Tuesday when they host State Fair at 1 p.m.
