Baseball Defeats Dodge City, Advances To Super Regional

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Friday afternoon marked the end of the Region VI Tournament First Round where the KCKCC baseball team was able to hold on for a 7-4 win over Dodge City. The win helped the Blue Devils advance to the Super Regional round, which begins Wednesday in Wichita, Kan.

The Blue Devils victory on Friday capped off a three-game series where the team also won 13-3 on Wednesday, before falling 10-5 on Thursday. The team is 37-21 overall.

After winning the first game of the series 13-3 in eight innings, the Blue Devils battled back and forth with the Conquistadors in the second game. The two squads were tied at 5-5 heading into extra innings and Dodge City came out with five runs in the 11th frame to eventually claim the win.

Friday was different however. KCKCC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Jase Woita clobbered a three-run home run over the right field fence. Dodge City added two runs in the second inning, but the Blue Devils bounced back with another pair of runs in the fifth frame. KCKCC added one run in the seventh and eighth innings as insurance, while holding Dodge City to a pair of runs in the ninth to come out on top.

Brady Patterson also added a home run in the game. Maclane Finley was stellar on the mound throwing eight innings before Zachary DeFreece came in for the one inning save – striking out two batters.

KCKCC advances to the next round and will face Barton on Wednesday in Wichita at 4 p.m.
