Blue Devils Offense Explodes in Wins over Highland, 25-14 and 16-0

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (15-2) took down Highland Community College (11-13) 25-14 and 16-0 Mar. 9 in Kansas City, Kan.

In the first game, Brady Patterson led the Blue Devils at the plate going 3-4 bringing in a team-high six RBIs and recording a home run. Brady Kern also had an effective day bringing in four runs and scoring three himself. Peyton Basler and Jackson Mervosh both had three RBIs and combined for three runs and three hits. Gehrig Goldbeck scored a career-high five runs for the Blue Devils and had two RBIs with a double. Marcus Dierks went 2-4 and scored three runs. Offensively, the team had 14 hits, 16 walks and just one strikeout.

For pitching, Aaron Lewis threw for two innings letting up seven runs off eight hits and recorded two strikeouts. Dalton Smith recorded the win with throwing for 3.2 innings and letting up just three hits, two runs and a very impressive seven strikeouts.

For the second game, Bryson Vawter led the Blue Devils while going 1 for 2 at the plate and bringing in three RBIs and scoring two runs. Gehrig Goldbeck hit a home run and recorded two RBIs and three walks. Jackson Mervosh got on base three times and recorded one run. Both Marcus Dierks and Levi Martin recorded two hits and added up for five runs and three RBIs. Both Vawter and Freddie Nolen IV recorded a double as well.

Donovan Johnson let up five hits and no runs in the five innings of work with three strikeouts. Caleb Reed pitched the remainder of the game and didn't let up a single run or hit while striking out five Highland batters.

The next game for the Blue Devils is against Saint Charles Community College at 1 p.m. Mar. 12 in O'Fallon, Mo.
