No.15 Blue Devils Sweep Fort Scott, 3-2 and 7-6

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team (42-7) took down Fort Scott Community College (36-16) 3-2 and 7-6 Apr. 27 at the KCKCC baseball field. The Blue Devils had back-to-back walk off wins against the Greyhounds in Saturday's series. KCKCC is currently tied in second place with Cowley College (23-5) in conference play, behind only Johnson County (25-3). The Blue Devils are set to play JCCC in the final regular season games of the 2024 season Thursday (home) and Saturday (away).

 

In the first game, the 10th inning started off with a Gehrig Goldbeck double with nobody out. Brady Patterson stepped up to the plate line driving the ball to left field scoring Goldbeck for the win. Patterson was responsible for scoring two of the three runs for the Blue Devils. Peyton Basler had a double making it three of his last four games recording multiple hits. The other RBI in the game came from Austin Burroughs in the fifth inning.

 

Aaron Lewis threw for 5.1 innings letting up just two runs from the three Greyhound hits. He also struck out five baters. Dalton Smith, Caleb Reed and Gavin Killion came in for the remainder of the game letting up just three hits in the final 4.2 innings.

 

For the second game, the Blue Devils were down 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Goldbeck came to the plate with nobody on and two outs with a deficit of three runs. He got hit by a pitch and went to first as Patterson came up to the plate. Patterson hit a homerun to left center field making it a one run game. Frankie Santiago hit a blooper to right field getting on first base as Freddie Nolen IV walks up to the plate. On a 1-2 count, Nolen hit the ball hard to deep left field going over the wall to make it a two-run home run walk off winner. That was his second home run on the day as he led the team with three RBI.

 

Donovan Johnson recorded the win while coming in after Caleb Deer. He threw for six innings and had six hits but only allowed two Greyhounds to score.

 

The next series for the Blue Devils is against Johnson County Community College at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. May 2 at the KCKCC baseball field.
