Blue Devils and Red Ravens Split Series

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team fell in both games to the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens in Coffeyville, Kan with scores of 4-3 and 10-5. The games in Coffeyville were originally scheduled for April 5 but due to weather they were pushed back to April 7. The first two games were at KCKCC last week with the Blue Devils winning both but the roles switched Monday night as the Red Ravens took both games.

In the first gameFrankie Santiago hit a solo home run while going 2-4 from the plate. Marcus Dierks keeps his five-game hit streak alive as he went 1-3 as the Blue Devil leadoff hitter. Spenser Smock and Braden Horn were the two other KCKCC batters who finished the game with a hit.

Bryson Vawter went the distance while allowing six runs from the five Panther hits. He walked one and struck out eight in the 25 batters he faced. The six Panther runs were enough to take down the Blue Devils 6-2 in game one.

For the second game, the Blue Devil bats caught fire as they put up 15 runs from their 11 hits. Freddie Nolen IV, Dierks and Santiago all recorded two hits apiece and were responsible for scoring eight of the 15 runs. Dierks also had two doubles in the game. Both Tanner Pachorek and Santiago had four RBIs as they both hit one over the fence. That made it back-to-back games where Santiago hit a home run. Sawyer Tolk and Smock had two RBIs each while recording one hit.

Gavin Killion held the fort down while allowing just three runs from five hits in his five innings of work. He struck out eight of the 20 batters he faced. Caleb Deer finished the final two innings while allowing no runs, no hits and struck out three.
