Blue Devils Fall to No.3 Tigers

The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team fell to the No. 3 Cowley College Tigers in both games May 1 at the Cowley baseball field with scores of 5-1 and 7-1. After those results, Cowley remains in first place in the KJCCC East Division standings with a conference record of 26-4. They are trailed by Johnson County (25-5), Coffeyville (19-13) and then the Blue Devils (17-13).

In the first game, the Blue Devils jumped out first with an early 1-0 lead, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. That one run was scored from an Ian Woita single to left field, scoring Braden Horn from second base who got on base from a walk. The two other Blue Devil hits came from Marcus Dierks and Freddie Nolen IV.

Bryson Vawter shut out the Tigers in the opening four innings but would eventually let up the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. He threw for 5.1 innings allowing two runs from three hits. He walked four and struck out eight of the 23 batters he faced. Gavin Killion entered the game and threw for .2 innings, allowing three runs from two hits. One of the hits was a Tiger home run.

For the second game, KCKCC outhit the Tigers 10 to eight despite losing the game 7-1. Tanner Pachorek led the team off and went for an impressive 4-5 from the plate with one RBI. Colton Kirkham went 2-4 and the other hits came from Cade Parry, Spenser Smock, Dierks and Nolen IV.

Caleb Deer recorded six strikeouts in his four innings of work while allowing three runs from two hits and four walks. Carter Beach entered the game and allowed two runs from four hits and one home run. He struck out three of the 12 batters that he faced. Caden Howell didn't record an out while letting up two runs and two hits. Tanner Warner closed things out and didn't allow a single hit in his 1.1 innings of work. He walked three but struck out two of the seven batters that he faced.

The final regular season series for the Blue Devils is against the Cowley College Tigers at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. May 3 at the KCKCC baseball field.
