Men's Basketball Falls To Iowa Western In Thriller Tuesday

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team had to go to an extra period Tuesday night with Iowa Western Community College, where they came up short 81-72 on the road. The Blue Devils are now 5-4 overall, while Iowa Western stays undefeated at 8-0.

KCKCC jumped out of the gate quick going on an 8-0 run to start the game. Shayon Janloo and Joshua Butler would contribute combining for the first eight points. Iowa Western would climb back briefly, but the Blue Devils would take a nine-point lead at 32-23 at the break. Iowa Western started to chip away in the second half as they went on a 20-9 run to tie the score at 43-43.

The Blue Devils would start to trail 57-52 at the 5:14 mark, but Bryce Johnson and Bradley Lightbourne gave the team a 58-57 lead with back-to-back three-pointers. It was a nail-biter toward the end of the period as the Pirates took a 65-64 lead, but a foul by Iowa Western gave the Blue Devils a chance at the line for a free throw where Johnson converted to send the game into overtime.

The overtime period would not go the Blue Devils way though as Iowa Western scored 11 unanswered points to eventually run away with the win.

Johnson and Butler were the team's top two scorers with 19 and 18 points respectively. Lightbourne would add a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Blue Devils return to action on Nov. 30 when they host MidAmerica Nazarene JV at 7 p.m. inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
