Men's Basketball's Late Lead Slips To No. 12 Indian Hills CC, Fall 69-61

OTTUMWA, Iowa. – On Wednesday night the Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team faced off against NJCAA Division I member No. 12 Indian Hills Community College. The Blue Devils had a large lead late in the game, but Indian Hills would climb back to defeat KCKCC 69-61. Three Blue Devils scored in double figures and the team shot 37 percent from the floor.

KCKCC falls to 7-5 overall on the year.

With 6:35 left in the first half the Blue Devils trailed by five points at 17-12, but two consecutive three-point baskets from Joshua Butler and Joshua Dames would catapult a Blue Devils run to take the lead. Indian Hills scored a few points late in the first half and KCKCC would lead 26-25 at halftime.

Midway through the second half the lead for the Blue Devils grew to double-digits when Bradley Lightbourne and Dames hit back-to-back long range shots. Butler later made a layup and converted an and one opportunity as the Blue Devils led 50-37 with 7:56 to play. Indian Hills somehow found some momentum and would go on a 17-4 run in three minutes to tie the game at 54-54 and their run would not stop there. Another 10 straight points put them ahead 64-54 with 1:16 left before they salvaged the comeback for the victory.

Dames had 15 points to lead the team, while Shayon Janloo had 14 points and Lightbourne posted 12. Dames also made a team high four three-pointers and tied for the team lead of two assists with Cortez Howlett.

KCKCC will return to action Saturday as they host Des Moines Area Community College at 2 p.m. inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
