Jones's 27 Points Spark Men's Basketball 76-65 Win Over Labette

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team picked up where they left off from Monday, as they started KJCCC play with a 76-65 win today against Labette CC inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.

KCKCC is now 10-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference on the season.

KCKCC got off to a fast start as they sprinted out to an 8-0 lead after a three-pointer from Cortez Howlett to force a timeout by Labette CC. Caleb Jones and Joshua Butler would help increase that lead to 13-0 out of the timeout, before the Cardinals finally got on the board at the 15:49 mark. Labette would climb all the way back and connected on two straight three-pointers before eventually taking a 29-28 lead. Both teams would chip in a couple more points and both teams were tied at 30-30 at the break.

Butler and Jones would combine for the team's first eight points of the half as KCKCC led 38-30. Labette would not go away however as they continued to stay within striking distance. KCKCC led 53-48 with 10:10 to play, but six straight points by Shayon Janloo helped spark a big run by the Blue Devils. The team eventually went up 71-59 at the 3:02 mark before coming out on top.  

Jones scored a season-high 27 points for KCKCC and Butler added 13.

KCKCC is back in action on Wednesday when they play at Hesston CC at 8 p.m.
