HESSTON, Kan. - The Kansas City Kansas Community College men's basketball team held a narrow lead at halftime before a big second half helped the Blue Devils to a 96-59 win on the road Wednesday night.
KCKCC is now 11-6 overall and 2-0 in KJCCC play.
Kansas City Kansas Community College would take an 11-5 lead after a basket from Joshua Butler just under five minutes into the first half. Bryce Johnson and Shayon Janloo gave the team a double-digit lead and KCKCC led 17-7. The Larks rallied back to trim the deficit to three points, but Cortez Howlett, Caleb Jones and Butler boosted the team back to a comfortable lead and KCKCC would lead 42-31 at halftime.
The second half was all Blue Devils as they built a 50-35 lead with 14 minutes to play. Howlett, Joshua Dames and Jones would give the team 10 unanswered points and with 12:31 to play the Blue Devils would lead by 29 points at 68-37. The scoring did not stop there as a 9-0 run capped off by Keondre Brown put the Blue Devils up 77-37 with under 10 minutes to play. Hesston College could not convert to make a late comeback and the Blue Devils led the way down the stretch.
Jones led the team with 20 points and Zach Nelson added 11. Bryce Johnson put together a game with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Blue Devils will hit the court again on Saturday when they travel to Highland CC for a 3 p.m. start.
