Blue Devils Prevail With Late Rally Over Fort Scott CC On Sophomore Night

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The KCKCC men's basketball team used a late rally in the second half to pull away from Fort Scott CC Wednesday night, in front of their home crowd for Sophomore Night.

The Blue Devils earned their 20th win of the season, which marks the most for the squad since 2015-16. Currently KCKCC is 20-9 overall and 11-3 in the KJCCC.

Early in the first half, Cortez Howlett and Joshua Butler capitalized on a seven-point lead for the Blue Devils as they led 12-5 with 16:57 to play. Later on under the four minute mark, the Blue Devils held a 27-21 lead before Caleb Jones and Shayon Janloo connected on two straight three-point baskets to make it 33-23 with 2:03 left in the half. KCKCC would take a 35-26 lead at halftime.

The Blue Devils would hold onto the lead in the second half up until the 15:41 mark when the Greyhounds tied the game at 37-37. Fort Scott's lead would grow to eight points, but the Blue Devils started to come back as Jones sank a few free throws and a basket and Joshua Dames nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 49-49 with just under eight minutes to play. Fort Scott's Jace Scott hit a three-point basket later to make it 56-51 Greyhounds, but KCKCC went on a 9-0 run to make it 60-56 with 3:39 to play - once Howlett made a layup and earned an and-one opportunity at the charity stripe.

The Blue Devils would hang on to the lead and never let Fort Scott CC come within striking distance.

Howlett led the team with a season-high 27 points, while Jones had a team-leading 10 rebounds.

KCKCC now awaits their seeding in the upcoming KJCCC Tournament, which begins on Monday, Feb. 28.
