Men's Basketball Staves Off Allen County For Win

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC men's basketball team had to edge out Allen County Saturday afternoon 72-65 Saturday afternoon, as part of Sophomore Day.

Before the game sophomores Bradley Lightbourne, Jeremiah Stanton, Joshua Dames, Jalen Broyles, Gary Bess Jr. and Jerry Maxinaud were honored for their contributions to the program.

The Blue Devils are 18-11 and 9-4 in the KJCCC.

KCKCC got out to a 6-0 lead with points coming from Hudson Anderson, Stanton and Jaylon Moses. Both teams battled throughout the first half, but KCKCC grabbed a 26-17 lead after two free throws from Bess Jr. Allen would cut the deficit and the Blue Devils led 28-24 at the break.

The RedDevils trimmed the deficit and took a brief 37-36 lead in the second half, before two straight baskets by Anderson gave the Blue Devils the momentum. KCKCC continued to hold the advantage and a basket from Dames with 2:03 left put the team ahead 65-56. The Blue Devils' defense stepped up in the final minutes and the team was able to pull out the upset over first place RedDevils.

Bess Jr. led the team with 15 points and Dames had a double-double of 14 points and 14 rebounds.

KCKCC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Fort Scott at 7:30 p.m.
