Men's Golf

Under the leadership of Gary Shrader, the Blue Devil Golf team has steadily progressed to be among the leaders in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) and the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA).

Coach Shrader is entering his 24th year as the Head Golf Coach at KCKCC. Under Shrader’s tutelage, the Blue Devils have reached the NJCAA National Tournament 13 of Coach Shrader’s 23 years of coaching. KCKCC won the Region VI Golf Championship in 2015 and 2016. Blue Devils finished in 5^th place at National in 2015 and 9^th in 2016.

Prior to coming to KCKCC, Shrader worked for the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities, serving as Director of Electric Operations. During his 34 years of employment, he served as an employee representative on the IBEW Executive Board and also held the position of Chairman of the Board of Pension Trustees.

A native of Kansas City, KS, Coach Shrader graduated from Wyandotte High School. While at Wyandotte High School Shrader competed on the Bulldogs 1961 state championship basketball team. In addition to basketball, Shrader achieved athletic success in Track and Field and was a member of the 1962 State championship team. Shrader continued his athletic endeavors while on a track scholarship at Kansas State University, participating in the pole vault and high jump. Soon after leaving at Kansas State, he entered the military and served in Viet Nam. After his military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from National College in Rapid City, SD.

In 1977, Coach Shrader started coaching Little League Baseball and quickly became involved in local youth sports, serving as Board Member and Chairman for 17 years for the Wyandotte County Sports Association. Since 1979,

Shrader’s devotion to his student-athletes’ success in the classroom is just as important as their success on the golf course. During his 20 years, he has had numerous golfers receive academic honors for posting grade point averages above 3.0.
