Men's Soccer Opens Campaign 1-1 At Home

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The KCKCC men's soccer team started their campaign last week going 1-1 at home Friday and Saturday. The Blue Devils fell to Southwestern Ilinois College 2-1 before settling the score with Lewis & Clark Community College with a 2-1 win, both games taking place on their home field. 

Against the Blue Panthers, both teams would go scoreless up until the 32nd minute. The Blue Devils found the back of the net when Pedro Faria scored on a pass from Julien DeAngelis. Southwestern Illinois however would score two minutes later to tie the match up. Both teams were tied after regulation where the Blue Panthers scored in the first three minutes. KCKCC would fall 2-1 in overtime.

In the match against Lewis & Clark, Vasilis Christodoulou put the Blue Devils on the board in the 12th minute, giving the team an early 1-0 lead. Lewis & Clark countered however with a goal of their own 10 minutes later. Both teams then went to halftime tied at 1-1. 18 minutes into the second half, KCKCC had started finding opportunities and one in particular came through for the squad. Henrique Sant'Anna Zachello scored to put the team up 2-1 with an assist from Patrick Hedegard Hansen. KCKCC would hold off the late charge by Lewis & Clark and come out with their first win of the season.

Christodoulou and Sant'Anna Zachell scored for the Blue Devils, while Axel Tonietto made five saves.

KCKCC returns to the field on the road against Neosho County CC on Wednesday, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
