KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The No. 10 KCKCC softball team got off to a slow start at home against North Dakota College of Science as they accumulated only four hits in a 3-2 loss, but the Blue Devils offense intensified in the second game as they took the nightcap 10-1 - splitting the doubleheader. 

KCKCC is 13-3 overall as they begin conference play tomorrow.

North Dakota College of Science got out to a 1-0 lead in the first game before the Blue Devils tied the score in the second frame. KCKCC would fall behind 2-1 after three innings, but were able to tie the score again in the sixth inning. Both teams headed to the final inning tied at 2-2. North Dakota would break the tie with their turn at the plate before the Blue Devils threatened in the bottom half. KCKCC was unable to make the turn and fell just short.

Savannah Maynard had two RBI in the first contest, while Bradi Basler was credited with the loss in the circle.

In game two the Blue Devils got everything they wanted on offense. KCKCC batted 11-for-23 (.478) in the game and broke out to a 5-1 lead after just two innings. The Blue Devils had a big fourth inning -scoring five runs and ended the game in five innings due to the run-rule. 

McKenna Lester led the team with three hits and three RBI. Basler and Madison Pope each had two hits and two RBI. Emily Ashford earned her first win in the circle throwing four shutout innings and striking out three.

KCKCC returns to the field when they begin conference play Thursday with a doubleheader at home against Fort Scott CC at 1 p.m.
