No. 15 Blue Devils Route Allen CC After Game 1 Defeat

IOLA, Kan. - After falling in the first game by a narrow score of 9-8, the No. 15 KCKCC softball team routed Allen County CC 13-1 in five innings in the second contest on Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils now sit at 25-7 overall and are 8-4 in the KJCCC, sitting in second place in the D2 Division A standings.

In the first game the two teams traded punches in the first inning with Allen CC taking a 4-3 lead. The next two innings were scoreless between the two squads, but the Blue Devils grabbed a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning with three runs. KCKCC would take an 8-5 lead into the seventh frame when things started to fall apart for the Blue Devils. Allen would find a rhythm on offense and scored four runs in the inning to take the 9-8 walk-off win.

Emma De Brouwer and McKenna Lester each went 4-for-4 in the game with Lester tying a career-high six RBI. Bradi Basler was hit with the loss in the circle, despite striking out 10 Red Devil batters.

KCKCC would manage to rebound easily in the second contest of the day, as they only needed five innings to decide the game. The Blue Devils sprinted out of the gate with 10 unanswered runs in the first three and a half innings, before Allen CC added their first run in the bottom half. Three more runs for the Blue Devils in the fifth inning and a shutdown bottom half, capped off a big game for the squad.

Three Blue Devils in Savannah Maynard, Mckenzie Ogden and Trinity Tauer all had three hits apiece. Lester continued her strong day along with Ogden as each tallied four RBI in the game. Breanna Droge allowed just the one run in five innings to record her 12th win of the season in the circle.

KCKCC will next play on Saturday and Sunday as they host No. 14 JCCC on Saturday at 12 p.m., before welcoming Metropolitan CC on Sunday also at 12 p.m.
