No. 15 Softball Splits With No. 14 JCCC, Sweeps Metropolitan CC

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The No. 15 KCKCC softball team wrapped up a busy weekend on Sunday as they swept Metropolitan CC by scores of 11-1 and 10-2 - both ending in five innings. On Saturday it started with the Blue Devils playing to a split with No. 14 Johnson County CC as they won 6-1 and fell 5-1 in the second contest.

The Blue Devils are now 28-8 overall and 9-5 in the KJCCC.

Saturday's first game against the Cavaliers started with a bang as the Blue Devils scored three runs in the first inning. McKenzie Ogden also hit a triple in the inning to set the program record for most triples in a season.

The Cavaliers added one run in the second inning before the Blue Devils countered with a run in the third and led 4-1 after four and a half innings. KCKCC added two more runs in the fifth and rode that to the game one victory. Ogden had three hits and scored three runs in the contest, while McKenna Lester hit a home run and had four RBI. Bradi Basler earned her 13th win in the circle with a complete game and eight strikeouts.

JCCC would take the second game on the day as the Blue Devils scored just one run coming in the first inning. JCCC led 4-1 through six innings before adding one more run in the seventh. The Cavaliers then pitched a shutout seventh inning to take the win. KCKCC had just two hits in the game with one each recorded by Ogden and Kaitlyn Bradbury.

Sunday's games against the Wolves were no issue for the Blue Devils. In the first game, the team jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first two innings. Metropolitan CC added one run in the third, but the Blue Devils expanded the lead in the bottom half with four runs to eventually win by run-rule. 

Basler hit her seventh home run of the season and had a team-high four RBI, while adding two hits. She also threw five innings and had seven strikeouts. Lester, Madison Pope and Ruby Nola each had two hits.

In the final contest of the weekend, the Blue Devils again won by run-rule after five innings. Taking a 4-0 lead after four innings, the Blue Devils outscored the Wolves 6-2 in the fifth to win 10-2. Savannah Maynard hit two home runs in the game and had two RBI. Breanna Droge earned her 13th win of the year as well, throwing four innings and striking out six batters, while allowing two runs. 

The Blue Devils will play their next three dates on the road beginning on Tuesday, when they play at Fort Scott CC at 2 p.m.
