Walk-Off Win Ignites Blue Devils Sweep Over Cloud County Thursday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The No. 16 KCKCC Blue Devils team fought back late in the first game against Cloud County CC on Thursday, to walk-off with a 3-2 win before solidifying the sweep with a 13-5 win over the T-Birds in the second game.

The Blue Devils are now 33-9 overall and 14-6 in the KJCCC, sitting in third place in the Division A standings.

Both teams struggled early on, but the Blue Devils got on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. Cloud managed to get runners around the bases in the fifth inning when the T-Birds struck for two runs in the fifth to grab the lead. KCKCC used their late game heroics however as they won the game on a walk-off with two runs in the seventh frame.

McKenna Lester led the charge with two RBI. Savannah Maynard, Mckenzie Ogden and Bradi Basler each scored a run in the game. Basler also earned the victory in the circle for her 18th of the season.

Game two was all Blue Devils as they regrouped and capitalized on every opportunity. The first inning would be the difference in the game as KCKCC scored eight runs to take the big advantage. The game lasted just five innings as Cloud County scored three runs in the third and two in the fifth. But the Blue Devils kept the pressure on the T-Birds and added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to earn the run-rule win for the sweep.

Lester stepped up again with a perfect 4-for-4 game and five RBI. Ogden was second on the team with three hits, while scoring two runs and adding two RBI. Breanna Droge earned her 14th win in the circle with four innings pitched and struck out six batters.

KCKCC has the weekend off before traveling to Coffeyville, Kan. on Monday to face Coffeyville CC at 2 and 4 p.m.
