Softball Splits With Fort Scott, Falls To JCCC

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC softball team faced off against Fort Scott and Johnson County this week. The Blue Devils split with Fort Scott on Tuesday winning 12-4 and falling 6-3, before falling to Johnson County 10-1 and 7-1 on Thursday.

The Blue Devils are 21-24 overall and 9-13 in the conference.

KCKCC jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first inning against Fort Scott in game one. The Greyhounds would chip in a pair of runs in the third to cut the deficit to 9-4, but the Blue Devils capped off the win with a walk off two-run single in the fifth.

Kaia Cordill had a home run and five RBI. Cordill and Ruby Nola each recorded four hits.

In the second game of the day, Fort Scott answered the Blue Devils' first inning run with three in the second frame. KCKCC regained the lead in the third with a pair of runs, but Fort Scott added a run in the fifth and two in the seventh to take the lead. The Blue Devils were unable to answer in the bottom of the seventh and Fort Scott came out on top.

Nola had another four-hit game, while Stella Harber added a triple.

The Blue Devils faced the Cavaliers on Thursday and were unable to get their offense going against a strong Johnson County squad. Johnson would take the first game in five innings before jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the second game.

Annika Smith led the offense with three hits on the day.
