KCKCC LADY BLUEDEVILS EDGE OUT HIGHLNAD IN LATE GAME RALLY

You can count the Lady Blue Devils down but never count them out.  Right from the start of the game you could see that things just weren't clicking for the 26-2 Lady Blue Devils. When they went down 14 points at the half, you might have even counted them out.  However, if ever there was a team to never say quit, this is the team that will fight to the bitter end.  And that is just what they did on Saturday when they trailed the entirety of the game after the first minute to regain the lead with less than a minute left to go in the game when the blue devils pulled ahead by one.

What seemed to be the Achilles heel for them the entire game was in fact what gave them the lead with just 2 seconds left in the game - free throws.  The lady blue devils were ice cold from the charity strip in the first half of the game only making 3 for 11.  However, when it mattered most they connected on 6-8 from the free throw line in the final 3 minutes of the game.

Down 1 point with 10 seconds left in the game, Highland missed their 4th free throw attempt in a row in a matter of 2 seconds.  A defensive board by Cierra Gaines led to an outlet pass to Cassidy Harbert who went the length of the floor and got fouled.  Harbert stepped to the line like this was just another routine free throw and proceeded to knock down both attempts to put the blue devils back on top.

Cierra Gaines led all scorers with 21 points, all coming in the second half.  Cheyenne North  notched another double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.  "It was such an ugly first half, but it was one of the most exciting comebacks I have ever been a part of.  I am extremely proud of their fight and resilience, " said Stambersky

The Lady Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday when they take on Jayhawk conference opponent Allen County at 2:00.  They will be at home again on Wednesday, February 25th at 5:00 for the final regular season game against Johnson County.
