KCKCC FALLS  SHORT IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

The lady Blue Devils concluded the season Saturday falling to Johnson County 70-51 in the Region VI DII Championship game.  The game was hard fought for about 33 minutes before it opened up and the Blue Devils couldn't recover.  JCCC out rebounded the Blue Devils by 13 and the Cavaliers had 44 free throw attempts to just 20 by the Blue Devils.

Halftime score favored Johnson County 29-27 which was a positive in Coach Stambersky's eyes considering the previous two math-ups.  "I felt like we were right where we needed to be going into the second half.  We never really got into a rhythm and played our game in the first half, so for it be a two point game at half time I was confident in what this group was capable of doing in the second half," said Stambersky.

The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Erin Anderson with 16 points.  "Erin did a great job of knocking down some 3's for us to give us a spark.  I was happy for her to be able to show other people her scoring ability," said Stambersky.  Aricca Daye was another spark for the Blue Devils coming off the bench and scoring 13 points.

The Blue Devils finished the season 28-4 and ranked 8th in the Nation.  All four of their losses came to teams that are competing at the NJCAA DI and DII National tournament.  "The outcome wasn't what anyone of us wanted, but this group battled a lot of adversity this year and still managed to come out on top.  I am very proud of these young ladies and the commitment and work they put in this year and the foundation that our sophomores have laid. These young ladies are all champions in my opinion," said head coach Valerie Stambersky.
