Blue Devils' Fast Start Leads To Big Road Win Over Hesston

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - After having an uncharacteristic weekend to open conference play, the Kansas City Kansas Community College women's basketball team sped past Hesston College Wednesday night on the road, winning 54-26. The Blue Devils held the Larks to single-digit points in all four quarters and shot 34.5 percent from the field.

KCKCC is now 9-6 overall and 1-1 in KJCCC play.

Both teams traded baskets early on, but the Blue Devils grabbed the lead after De'Jaria Guillroy sparked a 10-0 run which ended toward the end of the first quarter. Faith Putz added a basket to cap it off and KCKCC led 17-7. The run continued as Hesston managed only two points in the second quarter. Aysia Arrowood would end the Blue Devil scoring in the second quarter as she nailed three straight long range shots and KCKCC led 32-9 at halftime. Hesston was unable to get into a rhythm and the Blue Devils would run away with the game down the stretch. Arrowood, Putz and Lacy Whitcomb would lead the scoring in the second half.

At the end, Arrowood had finished with 15 points and Putz had 12. Ikia Elam and Jennifer Guilbeaux each grabbed seven rebounds.

KCKCC will now travel to Highland CC on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
