Women's Basketball Stays Hot After Weekend Sweep

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The 18th-ranked KCKCC women's basketball team took two wins over the weekend at the KCKCC Classic, as they defeated North Central Missouri 64-49 and Metropolitan CC 60-50. KCKCC is now 5-0 on the year.

KCKCC led North Central Missouri after the first quarter on Friday by a score of 13-8. The Blue Devils kept the momentum going and led 33-23 at the break, before outscoring the Pirates in the third and fourth quarters. 

Jada Johnson led the balanced attack on Friday night with 25 points on 12-of-14 shooting. Kaylyn Rogers grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and the Blue Devils shot 52.9 percent from the floor.

On Saturday, the Blue Devils matched up with the Wolves and struggled early. KCKCC managed just 12 points in the first half and trailed 29-12 at the break. KCKCC would turn to full-court press defense and made Metropolitan CC uncomfortable. Rogers would cut the deficit to 10 points with 5:55 left in the period. But by the time the third quarter ended, Johnson and Lacy Whitcomb had hit back-to-back three-pointers to tie the score at 41-41.

KCKCC would slowly start to pull away in the fourth quarter and built a 57-49 lead at the 1:38 mark. 

Johnson and Miaya Ware scored in double-figures with 23 and 12 points respectively. KCKCC shot 36.7 percent from the field and held Metropolitan CC to 1-for-11 from long range.

The Blue Devils are back in action at home on Tuesday against University of Saint Mary JV at 5:30 p.m.
