Blue Devils Late Charge Nearly Upsets No. 4 JCCC Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The KCKCC women's basketball team trailed by a large margin in the first quarter, but a comeback late in the game nearly put them over the top of No. 4 JCCC– as they fell 62-58 to the Cavaliers Saturday afternoon inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.

The Blue Devils are now 10-6 overall and 0-1 to begin conference play on the season.

JCCC led 6-5 early, but went on an 11-0 run to make it 17-5.  The Blue Devils chipped away at the deficit but trailed 23-11 at the end of the first quarter. KCKCC outscored JCCC 16-9  in the second quarter as Rebecca Christodoulou and Jada Johnson scored the first five points for the squad. T'Yonne Duncan scored four straight points for the Blue Devils as the team got closer and had some momentum going into the locker room, trailing 32-27 at the half.

The Blue Devils regained the lead with less than five minutes left in the third when Victoria Jones nailed a three-point shot making it 37-36. Both teams continued trading baskets, but the Blue Devils still trailed 50-45. KCKCC worked their way to a three-point lead at 56-53 at the 3:28 mark before the teams found themselves tied at 58 apiece with one minute left in the game. JCCC later got a steal with 20 seconds left and a basket, which elevated them to the narrow win.

Christodoulou led the team with 13 points and Jada Johnson added 10.

The Blue Devils return to action Wednesday as they travel to Labette in Parsons, Kan. for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
