Blue Devils Fall To Red Devils, 56-53 In KJCCC Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – It was another draw on paper for the KCKCC women's basketball team as they faced off in a rematch with Allen County in the first round of the KJCCC Tournament Monday night inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils had a seven-point lead late in the game, but Allen clawed back and defeated the Blue Devils 56-53 to advance.

The Blue Devils finish the year at 18-13 overall on the season.

After grabbing a 12-7 lead after the first quarter, the Blue Devils came out of the huddle starting with a three-point basket from Jada Mayberry. Allen chipped away, but KCKCC got baskets next from Jada Johnson and Lacy Whitcomb to lead 24-18 at halftime.

Both teams traded baskets in the third quarter as the Blue Devils held the advantage with a 40-33 lead going into the fourth period. KCKCC struggled some, and Allen went on a 12-4 run to take a 46-44 lead with 3:13 to play. After Victoria Jones made a basket, the Red Devils grabbed the lead again going up 52-48 with 15 seconds to play. KCKCC answered back, but four free throws in the final seconds led to the win for Allen.

Whitcomb led the team with 11 points, while Jones had nine.
