Blue Devils Compete, Slip To No. 6 Butler CC Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The KCKCC women's soccer team battled hard against a tough No. 6 Butler CC team at home Wednesday night, before falling 5-3 to the Grizzlies.

The Blue Devils stand at 4-5-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the KJCCC.

Despite Butler scoring two straight goals to open the game, the Blue Devils had an answer right away from that point on. The Grizzlies first two strikes came in the seventh and 18th minute marks, before Cordilia Payne put the Blue Devils on the board in the 35th minute - with an assist coming from Julia Kuehne. Each team traded goals in the final 10 minutes as Butler led 3-2 at the break. Jana Richter and Mia Hurt connected on passes to assist Jordan Bedard on the second goal.

Both defenses would clamp down in the first 20 minutes of the second half, until the Grizzlies created some space scoring two straight goals in the 60th and 68th minute marks. Bedard would add her second goal of the game and ninth of the season at 87 minutes to trim the deficit, at 5-3.

Hurt, Richter, Viola Bischoff and Kuehne each had one assist for the Blue Devils. Karli Angle would add five saves in goal.

KCKCC is back in action on Saturday against Neosho CC at 12 p.m.
