
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - It was a long weekend for the No. 20 KCKCC volleyball team, but they were able to rebound from a mid-week loss to No. 2 Cowley CC by taking four of their next five matches at the KCKCC Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Blue Devils defeated Nebraska-Kearney JV 3-0 and St. Louis CC 3-1 on Friday before taking care of Southeast CC and Metropolitan CC each by scores of 3-1 on Saturday. The Blue Devils are now 10-3 overall on the season and remain No. 20 in the latest NJCAA DII Volleyball Top 20 Poll.
Nebraska-Kearney JV
In the first set against Nebraska-Kearney JV, the Blue Devils were able to stave off the Lopers with a 25-20 win. KCKCC then took that momentum and won set two by four points at 25-21. The third set was a bit tougher for the Blue Devils, but they managed to earn the sweep with a 26-24 set three victory.
Naomi Jemison led the team with 13 kills, while Taryn Dial added a double-double of 35 assists and 10 digs. Jo-Annie Perez and Emma Ayers tied for the team lead with 12 digs. Nicole Hughes and Jemison finished first and second on the team with a .381 and .357 hitting percentage respectively.
St. Louis CC
The Blue Devils battled St. Louis CC in their second match of the day on Friday, where they were tested over the course of the four sets. The Blue Devils took the first set 25-20 before falling in the second set 25-18. The Archers gave the Blue Devils a scare in the third set, but the Blue Devils held on for the win at 25-20 before closing out the match 25-17 in set four.
Jemison led the charge again in this contest with 14 kills, while Kyla Braden and Gracey Lovgren each had 10 kills. Dial stepped up and added another double-double of 42 assists and 13 digs and Ayers had a team leading 23 digs.
Southeast CC
A quick two sets went in favor of KCKCC where they won 25-14 and 25-19. The Storm battled back against the Blue Devils to take set three at 25-20, but the Blue Devils closed out the match in the fourth set with a 25-15 win.
Carlee Lill and Braden each had 10 kills, while Dial added 26 assists. Ayers led the defensive effort with 14 digs and Braded added six block assists.
Metropolitan CC
Both teams would trade the first two sets at scores of 25-23 and 25-15. KCKCC then managed to close out the match, winning the final two sets at 25-13 and 25-15.
Hughes and Lill added 10 kills apiece, while Dial added another double-double on the weekend at 32 assists and 10 digs.
KCKCC returns to action tonight against Labette CC in Parsons, Kan. at 6:30 p.m.
