
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Wednesday night put the No. 3 seed KCKCC volleyball team one match closer to a National Tournament appearance as they handled Northeast Oklahoma A&M CC with a 3-0 sweep inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
The Blue Devils are now 24-9 overall on the season.
A hot start for the Blue Devils put them in double-digits easily in the first set. The Blue Devils had all of the momentum before taking the first set 25-18. Everything continued to settle in for the Blue Devils as they took a 2-0 lead after taking the second frame 25-13.
Northeast Oklahoma could not keep up with the Blue Devils, but found themselves ahead early in the third set. Both teams reached 20 points in the frame, but KCKCC came away with the set and match win, with a 25-21 third set finish.
"As a group we played well and executed our game plan," head coach Mary Bruno-Ballou said. "Our energy level was great and we played hard and with a purpose."
Nicole Hughes and Gracey Lovgren paced the offensive attack as Hughes had 11 kills and Lovgren added seven. Hughes also had four total blocks, while Lovgren added two.
KCKCC advances to Wichita, Kan. for the Plains District B Championship match against No. 2 seed Cowley CC on Saturday. First serve is set for 12:30 p.m.
