Kansas City Kansas Community College's young volleyball team proved to be its own worst enemy as Neosho County rallied for a 3-1 win at Chanute Wednesday night.
The Blue Devils won the opening set 25-18 only to have Neosho take the next three 25-22, 25-12 and 25-16. The win was the sixth in a row for the Panthers (6-1) although KCKCC still leads the all-time series 8-7. The loss dropped KCKCC to 4-3 heading into a home duel with Labette at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6.
"Just too many errors," said KCKCC Coach Mary Bruno-Ballou. "We are earning points offensively, but we just can't afford to have 32 errors in a four-set match. We have an excellent group of athletes in a highly competitive gym but when we make that many errors, we are going to struggle, no matter who we face."
Offensively, the Blue Devils had more kills (42-40) and more assists (40-39) but couldn't overcome the 32-23 deficit in errors.
Shawnee Heights sophomore Taryn Dial had another big night for the Blue Devils with nine kills and 26 assists. Freshman Jayda Watson of Blue Springs had 12 kills and Glodalys Colon of San Luis, Puerto Rico, 11 for KCKCC while Blue Springs soph Lydia Huston had 13 assists.
