The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball team swept both Southwestern Community College and the Benedictine College JV team Sep. 17 at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. With the two sweeps, the Blue Devils have now swept seven of the nine matches they have won this year.
In the first match, the Blue Devils took each set with scores of 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14. Mercedez Brown led the way with 19 points and recorded a team high 13 kills on 25 total attempts. Brown also led the team with six service aces. Veronica Rolando had a team high 26 assists along with two service aces. Briazia Osborne was right behind her with 22 assists and two aces. Glodalys Colon added 11 kills on 17 total attempts with an impressive .529 kill percentage. Alejandra Aponte led the team with 16 digs and had two service aces.
In the second match, the Blue Devils won each set against Benedictine with scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-6. That is the least amount of the points the Blue Devils have let up this season. Tatianna Murray led the team with nine kills from her 17 total attempts. Colon was right behind her with eight kills from her 15 total attempts. Rolando and Osborne combined for 31 of the 39 assists. Ava Rann, a defensive specialist, recorded her first career kill going for a perfect one kill on just one attempt. Aponte and Rann both recorded eight digs for a team high. Sophia Frerking, Nykeriah Allen, Avery Bejan and Murray all recorded a black assist as well.
The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team is against Ottawa University at 5:00 p.m. Sep. 20 at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan.
