No.18 Volleyball Finish .500 on Day 2 at JCCC Tournament

The Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball team went .500 on the day as they took on No.4 Kirkwood Community College and Northeast Community College Sep. 21 at the Johnson County Community College Tournament in Overland Park, Kan. After the weekend, the Blue Devils are currently in fourth place in the KJCCC, behind Johnson County, Cowley and Highland.

In the first match, the Blue Devils lost in four sets with scores of 17-25, 22-25, 28-26 and 13-25. The Blue Devil offense was led by freshmen Tatianna Murray and Mayah Pridgett who combined for 21 of the teams kills from their 57 total attempts. Veronica Rolando and Briazia Osborne added up for 32 of the 33 assists. Geme Ajekwu had four block assists with one solo block, and Nykeriah Allen had five block assists. Alejandra Aponte had a team high 16 digs with Mercedez Brown right behind her with 12.

In the second match, the Blue Devils won in five sets against Northeast with scores of 17-25, 27-25, 23-25, 25-23 and 15-9. Murray, Brown and Pridgett recorded 58 of the 68 kills for the Blue Devils. Rolando once again led the team in assists while adding 53. Ajekwu went for four block assists and one solo block. Brown also led the team with 26 digs and Aponte recorded 24.

The next match for the Blue Devils volleyball team is against Coffeyville Community College at 6 p.m. Sep. 25 at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo.
